Music Monday: Be A Lamp

I’ve been listening to this song on repeat the last couple weeks. I’ve posted it below along with the lyrics. Here are two lines that stick out to me:

(1) “Oh to taste and see the gospel as I never have before” – Over familiarity with the Gospel can lead to a bland Christianity that stagnates in the heart. It is a daily fight against the flesh to make sure that the Gospel refreshes us and never becomes boring. We fight to retain a passion for our first love, Jesus Christ. Lord, may we taste your word in fresh ways everyday!

(2) “Be a lamp for all my days and I shall walk in endless joy” – Suffering and sin can easily rob us of joy. God, as the lamp that lights our way in dark paths, can make it so that we experience joy even in darkness. What a comforting promise to know that walking with the Lord will provide endless joy.

VERSE 1

Be a lamp for all my days Lord
Bear a torch that I might see
Through the fog of bitter pain
And know your purpose lies beneath
Oh to taste and see the gospel
As I never have before
Be a lamp for all my days
And I shall walk in endless joy

VERSE 2

As I sojourn cross this dessert
Through the plains of doubtful night
Speak the words that guide my footsteps
Let them shine as stars so bright
Point me northward to thy country
Where my soul will find its home
Be a lamp for all my days
And I shall walk in endless joy

VERSE 3

You’r the lamp, the light of heaven
Dawn of mercy for all men
Through your death and resurrection
Sons of night are born again
What a gift so free and moving
Sets ablaze my fainting soul
Be a lamp for all my days
And I shall walk in endless joy

TAG

Oh to taste and see the gospel
As I never have before
Be a lamp for all my days
And I shall walk in endless joy
