Hostility towards Christ and His people is on the rise. As Bible believing Christians, The Contenders exist to battle for the truth and digitally equip the saints to fight in the front lines. This is done in two ways:
1. Contending for Truth
This blog hopes to highlight the truth of Salvation and the joys of Jesus. Only the truth can liberate people from the bondage of sin (John 8:32; 14:6), and the world desperately needs it.
The Bible calls Christians to take a stand for the faith in the midst of a generation filled with false teaching:
Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints (Jude 1:3).
Paul instructed the Ephesian church to “not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them” (Ephesians 5:11). We live in times where compromise is abundant and contending is rare. It is imperative for the church to not cower in shame but stand in boldness for the Gospel (Romans 1:16).
Through these posts, discussions, and resources, The Contenders aim to obey the command given to the church to be the pillar and support of the truth (1Timothy 3:15 ).
2. Contending without Contention
Standing without compromise is not without grace. Paul said that in “speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ” (Ephesians 4:15). A preacher once said, “Truth without love is brutality. Love without truth is hypocrisy.” It is the conviction of this blog to speak truth in love.
It takes much wisdom to give the right word at the right time. In the middle of the battle we must remember this:
Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person (Colossians 4:5-6).
Conclusion
This is the mysterious paradox of the battle for the Bible. One the one hand, Christians are called to stand firm for what is true and never move an inch, but on the other hand, our witness is not void of discernment, and love in how we convey our message.
Truth is under attack. Therefore, our prayer is that this blog may be a tiny contributor in the great warfare for truth that we wage every day.
